This series is the first public offering of The Advancing Leadership Institute & DDJ Myers' renowned work with organizations. Many industry leaders are promoting this series as an opportunity for their peers to experience a new orientation to "leadership development" that has become integral to their business processess and customer and member service.

Deedee Myers speaks to Credit Union Journal readers on Onboarding Executives:

"...Deedee Myers says that onboarding is essential to employee development and to the impact new leadership has on staff. "This is the thing that scares me," Myers offered. "You have CEOs who have been on their jobs 25 to 35 years, and a new CEO comes in and the credit union does not onboard the person. That's a recipe for disaster. I encourage our clients to look at a year-long onboarding program (when a new CEO comes in). It's like having a new baby in the house."

When CUs do not effectively onboard new leaders, Myers said staff go into a "contraction. We call it a freeze. They hold back ideas because they are not sure they will be heard."

The same problem can occur when the credit union fails to onboard new branch managers. "Credit unions are hiring many managers from banks," Myers noted. "You get managers from a bank who are knowledgeable about financial practices, they are progressive, but they come from an atmosphere of push, push, push. That can lead to trouble if the branch manager does not become acculturated to the credit union and how it takes care of employees, and how it may work at a different pace..."

Mark Haeussler, President of The Advancing Leadership Institute, was recently published in Bank Asset Liability Management (BALM). His article Delivering on Your Bank's Strategic Plan outlines the six criteria for attaining strategic goals and objectives. The article also discusses how an Executive Team can effectively communicate in the formulation of a plan and strategy.

Deedee Myers was recently featured at the Amputee Coaliation of America's annual conference. She worked with and spoke to Amputees that are in transition to living a full life despite their limb loss. The attendees heard Deedee's own experiences in her leadership journey as she is a congenital amputee. DDJ Myers, Ltd. is very appreciate for the session's sponsorship by Otto Bock for the second year in a row.

Deedee Myers and Peter Myers presented two sessions at this year's CUNA CFO Council conference in Las Vegas. The first session highlighed how to increase accountability at the organizational, team and individual levels. The second session ventured into how our leadership presence, our presentation of ourselves, mood and body language, produces assessmentes, desired or undesired, in others. Our hard skills and resume will only help us in our journey so far. The difference between a compelling leader and a smart individual is our leadership presence.

For the fourth year in a row, DDJ Myers, Ltd. with sponsorship provided by Arizona Federal Credit Union and Pima Federal Credit Union, four young men attended the Young Men's School Of Embodied Leadership (SOEL) held at the Strozzi Institute in Petaluma, CA. During this week long intensive leadership event, these young men embodied their leadership potential and made commitments to do more of their part in making the world a better place. Peter Myers and three other individuals teach this event and donate much of their time to the success of these young men.

DDJ Myers, Ltd. co-sponsors a Young Women’s School of Embodied Leadership 2006 offered by Strozzi Institute in northern California. Arizona Federal Credit Union, State Department Credit Union, Navy Federal Credit Union and Marklyn Management joined DDJ Myers, Ltd. in sponsoring five young women with scholarships to a four day leadership school specifically designed for young women.

Mark Haeussler did volunteer work with 40 teachers at the Bayfield Elementary School by initiating a productive program that explores how we move in collaboration in our basic behavior styles. Successful leaders understand and build their strengths while developing strategies to manage their weaknesses.

Deedee donated her time, expertise and travel to present sessions at the WISE Conference, a Washington State-wide conference for disability advocacy. She facilitated visioning, purpose, and succession planning workshops.
